As soon as we step inside a steam bath, relaxation becomes the theme,
within minutes the warmness penetrates the body from head to toe relaxing
tired muscles and helping the worries of the day to drift away.
Benefits of steam bathing are the tension relief through relaxation, restoration
of well being and elimination of toxins through open pores.
Steam inhalation is an effective treatment to respiratory problems and is highly
recommended for treatment of common cold, sinusitis, bronchitis and asthma.
Steam treatment has a stimulating affect on the Cardio-Vascular system
the pulse rate increases to 100-150 range from 75 bpm during a normal day
workout this leads to increase in the blood circulation from heart to various
parts but maintain the blood pressure under normal control. The dilation of
capillary vessels enables the blood stream to carry larger amount of
nutrients and absorption of natural essential oil.
Design consideration
One should avoid using construction material which may corrode or decay the system components.
All inside surfaces must be completely sealed. Openings of showerhead , faucets and steam head
entering the steam room should be sealed with silicon compound.
Ceiling and seats should be sloped to allow condensation to run-off.
Provide a floor drain to allow easy cleaning and water to drain.
Ceiling height should preferably be 7 feet may be limited to a maximum of 8 feet.
The steam room must be leak proof, the doors when closed must provide complete seal from top to
bottom Ceiling vents are not recommended. If any ducts and vents are used it must be of non-ferrous
materials and must be equipped with a damper.
The steam generator must be kept in a dry and easy accessible area, where it will not freeze.
The copper steam line should always slope towards the steam head or the generator so as to not
form accumulation of condensation.
Sky-lights and exterior windows are not recommended as they are source of heat loss, if they are
in anyway present must be double panelled and withstand heat of the room.
